The Jinn, Sakhr, attempted to overthrow King Solomon, but was captured. King Solomon entombed the demon Sakhr in an iron chest using his ring, the Seal of Solomon. The King ordered the tomb to be cast into an abyss in a distant land. In the Bible, there is a vague reference to a demon who was sealed in a tomb, but the seal lasts only one thousand years. It is very possible that this is a reference to the demon Sakhr. Without the tomb being resealed, the demon Sakhr could be freed and rejoin his master, Iblis the Shaitan, one of the most powerful of the Jinn. If it is true that the tomb needs to be resealed every thousand years, the Seal of Solomon—King Solomon’s magical ring—would be needed for that purpose.

Coincidentally, the pentagram on the flag of Morocco comes directly from the Seal of Solomon. Why is it that the Moroccan flag is linked to this ancient seal? Is it possible that Morocco is that distant land identified by King Solomon as the place of exile for the demon Sakhr? Based on my research, that's very likely.

Oujda, Morocco was once a bustling border city on the Algerian-Morocco trade route, but the border was closed in the 1990s as a result of the centuries-long tense relationship between Morocco and Algeria. The ancient history of Oujda, however, is far worse. Despite the mostly hardscrabble life of Oujda’s current inhabitants, it is nothing compared to the centuries of human slaughter that Oujda experienced at the hands of warring Berbers, Arabs, and Turks. Since its founding in the tenth century as an "official" city, Oujda was destroyed by war so often that it became known as Madinat al-Hairah—the City of Fear—by lucky survivors. In Oujda, near one of the large souks, there is an ancient city gate nicknamed the Gate of the Heads. Until the French Occupation of Oujda in the 1940s, it was common practice for the decapitated heads of invaders and criminals to be displayed on this gate. I actually have a picture of an old postcard which shows heads being displayed on the gate.

Throughout the book, a certain Jinn named Asmodeus seeks to ensure that the tomb of the demon Sakhr is not resealed. Asmodeus is a particularly powerful Jinn and is known in both Islam and Judaism. The characters in The Jinn seek out certain information and clues contained in old magical texts, known as grimoires. Some of these grimoires were reportedly written by King Solomon, who is also an important figure in Islam known as Sulayman.

Sidi Yahia, an oasis on the outskirts of Oujda is the site of a mosque which reportedly contains the tombs of certain important religious figures in Islam. One is Yahia Ben Younes, better known in Christianity as John the Baptist. John the Baptist was reputed to be extremely humble, eschewing the wearing of linen and instead preferring a camel-hair tunic. It seems a little incredulous to think that the tomb of John the Baptist is at this modest place, however, it has long been rumored that the Sidi Yahia mosque was built atop the ruins of an ancient church. Interestingly enough, despite having lived almost exactly one thousand years apart, there is a strong connection between King Solomon and John the Baptist. This connection is now a secret known only to the Freemasons, who revere both King Solomon and John the Baptist.

Another interesting landmark near Oujda is Le Grotte du Chameau or “Cave of the Camel.” It is a large cave in the Beni-Snassen Mountains, approximately sixty kilometers from Oujda. A massive rock formation, which has an uncanny resemblance to a camel, sits atop the cave. The cave contains many unexplored caverns and deep abysses.

Almost exactly three thousand years after the time of King Solomon, the quest for the characters in The Jinn, should they survive the horrors of the Jinn, is to find the Seal of Solomon and the location of the demon Sakhr’s tomb. Even with King Solomon’s ring, the grimoires show that only a descendant of the King has the power to use the ring.

Will the Jinns be stopped in time or will Sakhr be freed from his tomb to unleash his revenge on the earth?

Get your copy of The Jinn and find out.

Copyright © 2011 Guth Ventures LLC. It was written and directed by Ajmal Zaheer Ahmad, and stars Ray Park (Sleepy Hollow, Star Wars: The Phantom Menace), Faran Tahir (Iron Man), Serinda Swan (Tron Legacy), William Atherton (Ghostbusters), and Dominic Rains. According to the director, the movie will introduce the accurate mythological concept of the Jinn to western audiences. There isn't a lot of plot information available, but the movie appears to be set in an insane asylum in Michigan. The movie features a Camaro designed by the director called the FireBreather.

In the Face of Jinn (2012?). While on a silk buying trip in India for their business in California, Elizabeth Shepard mysteriously disappears. Her sister Christine challenges the ineffectual U.S. and Indian bureacracies and ventures alone into the Islamic world to find her. Her search takes her into Afghanistan, Pakistan, the mysterious tribes of the Pashtuns, a dangerous encounter with the Taliban, and learns to fear the Jinn, the devils that dominate the superstitions of the people she must understand in order to survive.

Djinn (2012). Directed by horror genre master, Tobe Hooper and written by U.S writer
David Tully, Djinn tells the nightmarish story of a young Emirati couple
who return home from the U.S. and discover that their new apartment in a
luxury high-rise built on the site of an abandoned fishing village is
also home to the malevolent beings known as the Djinn.

Djinn Update: Apparently, there are some problems with the Djinn movie in post-production. Someone close to Abu Dhabi’s royal family has seen the movie and does not appreciate its portrayal of the UAE and considers the movie to be politically incorrect. As a result, according to what I've read, the royal family "bought" the movie and it may not ever be released.

Copyright © 2011 Guth Ventures LLC. As the girls encounter the terror of the Jinn and each face their fiery destinies, one girl is aided by an unexpected ally to fight the Jinn. Will she come to terms with her secret past and survive the wrath of the Jinn?

Washington, DC (PRWEB) December 15, 2011 -- Move over vampires, werewolves, and zombies—here come the Jinn! Author Stephen Guth unleashes his latest book, The Jinn, on unwary American audiences. “America’s horror favorites better watch their backs," Guth warns. "There’s something ancient at the top of the horror food chain—the Jinn. They’re horrific beyond imagine, they’re powerful, and they’re pissed that they’ve been ignored for so long.”

The Jinn, a horror thriller, is the story of three American girls fresh out of college who join the Peace Corps and travel together to Morocco. While living with their host family in the ancient border city of Oujda—known as the City of Fear for its bloody past—the girls become ensnared in the supernatural world of the Jinn. These most feared demons of Islam, the Jinn, existed before man and live on earth in a world parallel and normally unseen to mankind. As the girls encounter the terror of the Jinn and each face their fiery destinies, one girl is aided by an unexpected ally to fight the Jinn and their master, Sakhr. Her search to defeat the Jinn leads to the crypts of saints in the oasis of Sidi Yahia and the haunted catacombs of the Beni-Snassen mountains.

Much of the story exists in reality or in legend. “In many ways,” Guth says, “The Jinn is a story that was just waiting to be discovered and told. I was merely a scrivener, creating the characters and linking them to an amazing set of religious beliefs, historical facts, and exotic locales.”

Guth explains his motivation for writing The Jinn, “I’m a huge horror fan, but, frankly, I was getting tired of the same old rehashed stories. American audiences deserve something better. Why not introduce them to the horrors of the Jinn, which roughly half of the world’s population already believes in?”

This latest book by Stephen Guth is available in print at Lulu and for the Kindle on Amazon.com. Jealous of both man and angels, the lesser Jinn are commanded by Sakhr, servant to Iblis the Shaitan, to harvest souls of mankind in the Jinn’s quest for power and revenge.

In ancient times, King Solomon was entrusted with a powerful signet ring given to him by the Archangel Michael. With the ring, King Solomon commanded the elements and the spirit-world. After the demon Sakhr sought to dethrone King Solomon, the King entombed Sakhr in a chest and sealed it with the five-pointed star of his signet ring—the Seal of Solomon. The King ordered the chest cast into a deep cave in a distant land far from Jerusalem.

The powerful ring has since been lost to history.

Since the earliest of times and still to this day, the Jinn go to the lowest heaven and eavesdrop on angels discussing events of the future which they heard from God. The angels intensely guard the heavens from the Jinn, using meteor showers to attack any who try to eavesdrop.

One morning, following an evening where the girls experienced the most shooting stars in their lives, they visit Oujda’s old city market, the Souk Melilla. Just beyond the twelfth-century city walls and the ancient gate of Bab Sidi Abdelouahab—called the Gate of the Heads from when heads of invaders were displayed on the gate—the girls explore the bazaar-like marketplace. On an impulse, the girls visit an old fortune teller to predict their futures. The sage predicts horrific encounters for the girls and claims that one among them has attracted the attention of the Jinn who seek to free their master Sakhr.

As the girls encounter the terror of the Jinn and each face their fiery destinies, one girl is aided by an unexpected ally to fight the Jinn.
As I've been writing The Jinn, I've encountered all sorts of unusual nuisances and inconveniences. I've also had things happen to me that were potentially life-threatening; numerous near-accidents and planes with mechanical problems are two of a handful of examples. It's very probable that all of those things are directly attributable to the malevolence of the Jinn, who clearly don't like me writing about them. Although I'm complaining about it publicly, it's my problem alone to deal with.

Then I started thinking about the reader (you)--what responsibility do I have to the readers of The Jinn to protect them from any harm?

Just like the Jinn don't want this book to be written, the Jinn probably won't like people reading it. I don't want anything bad to happen to my readers, so I decided that advising readers to say a short prayer, a du'a, before reading The Jinn would be prudent. Here's a du'a that protects against the Jinn and Shaitan. I HIGHLY recommend that you recite this prayer every time you pick up The Jinn to read it.

In the name of Allah I begin and in Allah I trust. With the might of Allah, the power of Allah, the strength of Allah, and the greatness of Allah, I pray for Allah’s protection against the filthy, the impure, the wicked and the source of the wickedness, the Jinn and Shaitan the accursed.

Use whatever prayer you feel comfortable with. If you decide not to take this advice, you're on your own--I accept no responsibility for anything that might happen to you.

Copyright © 2011 Guth Ventures LLC.

Americans frequently take a myopic view of the world. Football is a good example. What we call “football” in the United States is dwarfed in popularity by what the rest of the world calls football. If you’re an American reading this, just so you know, "football" means soccer. Despite efforts to export American football to Europe, it never really took hold and likely never will.

Other times, America takes ideas from other parts of the world, repackages and markets those ideas, and then (assuming success) Americans call those ideas their own. I find it interesting how we Americans get all bent out of shape when another country violates our patent rights. Heck, we've been "appropriating" innovation and technology from other countries since the day we put our patent code in place.

The horror genre is no exception: vampires from Eastern Europe, werewolves from the Greek, and zombies from Haiti. America has adopted those patriarchs of terror and others (poltergeists), and we've made them our own. In fact, we Americans think we have the horror genre cornered. Despite most of the en vogue horror subject matter being “invented” elsewhere, Americans are genuinely surprised when other countries come up with really terrifying horror stories and movies (Ju-on, El Orfanato, Let the Right One In).

But America’s horror favorites better watch out. There’s something ancient at the top of the horror food chain.

The Jinn. They’re coming.

They’re horrific beyond imagine, they’re powerful, and they’re pissed that they’ve been ignored for so long.

Right now, there are 1.6 billion—yeah, billion with a “b”—Muslims throughout the world. It’s expected that the Muslim population will increase to 2.2 billion by 2030. Muslims have been essentially ignored by the U.S. horror market. For the sake of the future of horror, it's time to bring America and Muslims together. In the Islamic faith, Jinn are well known and feared. The horror of the Jinn is legendary and real. So let's do what we Americans do best when it comes to the horror genre--let's steal the Jinn and scare the hell out of ourselves and another 1.6 billion or so people.

While Americans might not ever embrace soccer as “football,” I predict that, in the very near future, the Jinn will impact the American horror genre in ways that vampires, werewolves, and zombies can’t even dream of.

If I were a vampire, werewolf, or zombie, I’d be worried. And I’d be watching my back.

The Jinn can be purchased in print or for the Kindle.

<!--
